The Indian Navy has commissioned the DIVING Support Vessel ‘Destruction’ on Friday (July 18, 2025) in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. India’s first indigenously created diving support Vastal joining the Indian Navy is considered to be an important achievement in the field of maritime capabilities of the country. This support is the first of the two support ships to the Indian Army.

In Visakhapatnam, the Minister of State for Defense was chaired by the commissioning ceremony of ‘Nistar’. Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi and many other senior dignitaries were present at the ceremony.

The first diving support of the Indian Navy ‘Nistar’ has been designed and created indigenously by Hindustan Shipyard Limited of Visakhapatnam. It is an important milestone in the direction of India’s self -sufficiency. With 120 MSME participation and over 80 percent indigenous content, the disposal is a statement of India’s ability to manufacture complex vessels, which correspond to international standards.

The commission of disposal highlights India’s strong progress towards achieving indigenous in defense construction and the Indian Navy’s resolve to strengthen its abilities in the underwater area.

The Defense PRO office in Visakhapatnam issued a statement in this regard on Thursday (July 17, 2025). According to the statement, the displacement of the ship is more than 10,500 tons (GRT) and its length is about 120 meters and width is more than 20 meters.

The main roles of this ship include deep sea divers and rescue operations from threatened submarines. Apart from this, special diving campuses on the ship are spread over several decks and it also has the necessary state -of -the -art systems for saturated divers missions. With these features, the capabilities of the Indian Navy will increase significantly.

Submarine rescue vehicle may also deploy disposal

In addition, the disposal also features remotely operated vehicles (Rov) to increase its underwater capabilities. It is in its submarine rescue roles, as a maternal ship for the darkest rescue vehicle sinking in deep water; A submarine can also deploy a submarine rescue vehicle to evacuate personnel from ROVs and threatened submarines for ship intervention.
