The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued notice to Google and Meta in connection with the investigation of cases related to online betting app. The agency alleges that these two companies worked to promote betting apps and gave prominence to their advertisements and websites on their digital platforms.
Call for questioning on 21 July
According to sources, Google and Meta are alleged to promote these betting apps and place an advertisement and websites of online betting from their platforms. Now the ED has summoned the representatives of both companies for questioning on 21 July.

ED in action against betting
This is the first time in this whole matter when a big tech company working in India is being directly accountable in cases like betting. This action of ED is part of the ongoing comprehensive campaign against online betting, in which the role of many big names and digital platforms is being investigated.
This step of the ED shows that the investigation is being done on a large scale. Earlier too, many film stars and social media influencers have come under investigation in the matter of promoting illegal betting apps.
