Gujarat Congress has got a new president. The Grand Old Party has returned to Chavda again. The party has again appointed Amit Chavda as the state president. He has taken the command of Gujarat Congress in place of Shakti Singh Gohil. Amit Chavda has been the president of Gujarat Congress earlier also. He was the President of Gujarat Congress from 2018 to 2021. After the 2022 Gujarat assembly elections, Amit Chavda was elected the leader of the Congress Legislature Party. The party’s performance was disappointing then and it was reduced to only 17 seats.
Why did Gohil leave the post
Prior to Amit Chavda, Shakti Singh Gohil, who was the President of Gujarat Congress, resigned from the post last month. Shakti Singh Gohil resigned from the post of Gujarat Congress President, taking responsibility for the party’s disappointing performance in the by -elections for Visavadar and Kadi, two assembly seats in Gujarat. Shakti Singh Gohil described himself as a disciplined soldier of the Congress and said that he always tried to give his best to the party and worked hard. He resigned from the post of state president, taking responsibility for the disappointing performance of the Congress on both the seats.
Why only fickle after Gohil
Why was Amit Chavda given responsibility after Congress Rajya Sabha MP Shakti Singh Gohil resigned from the post of state president? This can be understood in four points.
1- OBC face
In the Lok Sabha, the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and all the big leaders are seen active on the pitch of OBC politics. After the demand for caste census from Parliament to the road, or after the government announced to conduct caste census, the Congress has been to see the effort on the front. In the national session of the Congress in Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi himself emphasized the need to connect the OBC community. Amit Chavda comes from the OBC community and the OBC fits into the mold of focused politics.
2- Aam Aadmi Party’s strategy to counter OBC bets
In the last assembly election (2022) of Gujarat, the Aam Aadmi Party got more than 13 percent of the votes and the Congress vote share fell from 42.2 per cent of 2017 to 27.7 per cent. The Aam Aadmi Party has handed over the command of the party in Gujarat to Ishudan Garhvi. Ishudan Gadhvi comes from the OBC category itself. The strategy behind this bet of the Congress may also be to counter the Aam Aadmi Party’s OBC state president’s card.
3- Reliable face in Congress struggling with mistrust
Senior Congress leaders have also openly said that there are many leaders in the party who work for the ruling party while staying in the Congress. Rahul Gandhi himself has also identified such leaders and said that action against him. Many senior leaders of the party refused to contest the elections in the Lok Sabha elections. Some had left the party at the time of elections. Amit Chavda is a reliable leader in the Gujarat Congress, which is going through a period of mistrust. The image of five -time MLA Amit Chavda has been a dedicated worker of the Congress.

4- Ties with Congress family, cadre leaders
Amit Chavda belongs to the Congress family. His grandfather Ishwar Singh Chavda was an MP from Anand seat several times. Amit Chavda, who has studied chemical engineering, is the leader of the Congress cadre. He started his political journey from the National Students Union of India, NSUI, the student organization of Congress in student life. The Congress has also given a message to its workers by making Amit Chavda the state president that the cadre will be preferred on imported leaders.

5- Acceptance in the party, strong impact in the area of Anand
Amit Chavda is counted among the selected leaders of Gujarat, whose acceptance pan is Gujarat. Amit Chavda of clean image has been the state president of Gujarat Congress from 2018 to 2021 and is also a popular face within the organization. Central Gujarat, especially Anand and the surrounding areas have strong effects.
