Andhra Pradesh liquor scam: YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy arrested, know what is the whole matter

Andhra pradesh liquor scam: Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party YSRCP MP PV in the popular liquor scam of Rs 3,200 crore in Andhra Pradesh. Mithun Reddy has been arrested by the SIT. Mithun Reddy, Lok Sabha MP from Rajampet and floor leader of YSRCP in Parliament, has been made the fourth accused in this case. He was arrested after about 7 hours of questioning in Vijayawada.

The SIT investigation has revealed that the scam is related to the disturbances in Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation during the YSRCP government during the 2019-2024. Investigation revealed that by changing the liquor policy, the new distillery companies were provided unfair advantage and the rigging of about Rs 3,500 crore was done through kickback. So far 12 people have been arrested in this case, including Dhanunjaya Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy and Balaji Govindappa.

What are the allegations against Mithun Reddy?

SIT has accused Mithun Reddy of influencing the liquor policy and transferring money to shell companies by taking bribe from distillery companies. So far, an amount of Rs 62 crore has been seized in the investigation, as mentioned in the initial charge sheet of 300 pages. Along with this, statements of 268 witnesses have been recorded, which highlight the seriousness of this scam.

Mithun Reddy’s arrest was a day after the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea. Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh High Court also rejected his bail application. The SIT issued a lookout notice against him, describing Reddy as not cooperating in the investigation.

What did YSRCP say on Mithun Reddy’s arrest?

YSRCP took this action Chief Minister N.K. Chandrababu Naidu’s policy of political vengeance has been described. Party leader L. Appi Reddy said that Mithun Reddy is from a reputed family and his intention to join the investigation shows his innocence.

SIT will present Mithun Reddy to the ACB special court of Vijayawada on 20 July. The investigation is in its decisive phase and the SIT has said to file another charge sheet in the next 20 days.
