Before the next year’s assembly elections in West Bengal, the ruling party here is preparing to use its annual ‘Martyr’s Day’ rally as a platform to target the main opposition party for giving a edge to the discussion of ‘Martyr’s Day’ and the alleged oppression of Bangla -speaking migrants in BJP ruled states.

The Trinamool Congress is going to organize a rally on July 21 in Asplaynade, Kolkata, in the background of alleged discrimination and tension on the basis of language on the basis of language with Bangla -speaking workers in states like BJP -ruled Assam, Assam, Odisha, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi. In this, the party chief and Chief Minister will call on her party workers on behalf of Mamata Banerjee and will repeat this message, ‘Bangla -speaking is not the second status citizen in her own country.’

‘BJP is making poverty crime’

A senior Trinamool Congress leader told ‘PTI’, ‘Poor Bangla-speaking workers are being detained, harassed and are being called intruders. The BJP is making poverty a crime and making identity a weapon to harass the marginalized people.

Political mercury has been raised in Bengal in recent weeks. Banerjee has alleged that in the name of national security, Bangla -speaking migrants are being detained, targeted and their linguistic identity is being done. Banerjee recently said in a public meeting, ‘Being Bengali has become a crime in BJP ruled states. They feel that every Bengali is from Bangladesh, we will not tolerate this insult.

Not an election, now the fight for existence

Trinamool has accused the BJP of resorting to ‘linguistic discrimination’ and is trying to re -raise the emotional issue of regional identity. It is believed that Trinamool helped a lot from the issue of regional identity in fighting BJP’s Hindutva wave in the 2021 assembly elections.

A Trinamool MP said, ‘Dignity, identity and existence are at stake. The BJP is bent on eradicating Bengali identity under the guise of nationalism. Our fight is not just electoral, but of existence.

BJP reversed on Trinamool allegations

On the other hand, the BJP has strongly retaliated on the allegations of Trinamool. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently accused Trinamool of promoting infiltration and threatening national security for vote bank politics during his rally in Durgapur.

Modi had said, ‘This is the BJP that actually protects the Bengali’ Asmita ‘.’ He introduced the BJP as the only reliable option in Bengal. Responding to the allegations of Trinamool for harassment of Bengali migrants, BJP leaders have claimed that the confusion has arisen from Trinamool failure in strengthening citizenship and voter documentation.

Martyr’s day rally on 21 July every year

A leader of the BJP’s Bengal unit said, “They are accusing others to hide their inability.” The Trinamool Congress organizes the Martyr’s Day rally every year on 21 July. The party celebrates the Martyr’s Day in memory of the killing of 13 young workers in the police firing in 1993.

At that time, the then vocal leader of the Youth Congress, Mamta Banerjee, led the March 1 till the State Secretariat, demanding that the voter ID card be made the only document for the franchise. In the last few years, this rally has become a chance to show power for Trinamool, in which it often decides the attitude of the upcoming political battles.

Campaign before assembly elections

According to the inner sources in the party, this year’s rally will be a ‘launch pad’ to launch a campaign before the 2026 assembly elections, where Trinamool is planning to fight the battle ahead of Bengali Asmita and the alleged insult of its people across the state borders.

A young MLA from Trinamool said, ‘We gave him a change in 2011. Now we will give them resistance. He pointed to Banerjee’s speech, in which sharp political messages were given with emotional appeal.

‘Khela Hobe, Abar Hobe’

In this rally of Trinamool, millions of supporters from every corner of the state are expected to reach Kolkata. Some people are turning to the city in crowded local trains and some Trinamool flags, due to which there is a festive atmosphere in Kolkata.

Slogans such as tea shops and dhabas ‘Khela Hobe, Abar Hobe’ and ‘Banglar Kau Bangladeshi Noy’ (no Bengal are Bangladeshi) are seen writing in Aspland and Sealdah. A party strategist said, ‘From 1993 to 2025, the rally is more than a tribute. This is a declaration of fighting against Mamata Banerjee’s injustice, against insults and for the soul of Bengal.
