The Indian Army is finally expected to get the first batch of Apache AH-64E attack helicopters after a delay of more than 15 months. This operation is an important step towards strengthening its fighter capabilities on the Western border in view of vermilion.
The first batch will come on 22 July
According to sources knowing the delivery program, the first three helicopters are likely to be handed over to the Aviation Core of the Indian Army on 22 July. In 2020, the Indian Army signed a $ 600 million deal with the US for six Apache attack helicopters, which was to be delivered between May and June 2024.
However, due to interruption in the supply chain and technical problems from the US, the delayed delivery deadline slipped till December 2024.

Under the plan, six helicopters were to come in two batches of three-three. The second batch is expected to come later this year, the first batch has not reached India yet, while the deadline has been over one year.
Apache squadron without choppers
The Army Aviation Corps established its first Apache squadron in Nagatlav in Jodhpur in March 2024. The pilot and ground staff were trained and prepared for flight operations, but squadron has been without its formation without the attacker helicopters. Despite the possibility of increasing threat on the Western Front due to this long wait, there has been a significant difference in the operation of the army.
Apache AH-64e helicopters are known for their strong fire power, night vision, thermal sensor and advance targeting system and are seen as a significant increase in Army Arsenal.
While the Indian Air Force has already included 22 Apache helicopters under a separate 2015 agreement, the Indian Army is still waiting for these advanced combat helicopters to increase its ground attack capabilities.
Important role of helicopters in army
The Aviation Corps of the Indian Army plays an important role in the mission, from helping in the front line operation and removing the casualties. Its existing properties also include indigenous advanced helicopter (ALH) Dhruv, which was brought to the ground after an ALH of the Indian Coastguard in January this year. However, a limited approval was given for pole operations due to the emerging security situation after the Pahalgam attack.
Other helicopters in the core stores include Rudra, which is the Armed version of Alh Dhruv, which is used for nearest air aid and anti -tank rolls. Cheetahs and Chetak are for helicopters monitoring, logistics and withdrawal and are light combat helicopters (LCH), designed for aggressive missions in high altitude environment.

Stable-stained aircraft such as Dornier 228 are also used for monitoring, logistics and communication. For core monitoring, Heron and Survey like UAVs and MI-17 helicopters for medium-lift transport and clearance operations are also performed.
The arrival of Apache helicopters is expected to increase the army’s ability to run aggressive and defensive campaigns on the Western border, which will further strengthen the preparation among the operational priorities running under operation vermilion.
