Haryana’s new Governor Ashim Ghosh (81) took oath of office at Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh on Monday. He was sworn in by Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Sheel Nagu. Ghosh came into existence on November 1, 1966 as the 19th Governor of Haryana State.

Haryana Chief Minister Naib Saini and Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria were also present at the swearing -in ceremony. Ghosh has been replaced by Bandaru Dattatreya. His name was announced by President Draupadi Murmu on 14 July 2025.
Ashim Ghosh said on his appointment- “It is a great respect for me. I will serve the people of Haryana with full honesty and dedication.”

- Vajpayee’s favorite was infinite Ghosh: Aseem has played an important role in the roots of the Sangh and BJP in West Bengal. Right now Ghosh was working to carry forward the policies of BJP by staying in the party’s guide board in West Bengal. Tapan Sikander, who was a minister in the cabinet of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was brought into politics. It was Vajpayee who handed over the BJP’s command in West Bengal in view of Ghosh’s skill. Ghosh is identified as an intellectual face within the party.
- Fought Lok Sabha elections on BJP ticket, but lost: Pro. Aseem Ghosh has been the BJP state president in West Bengal from 1999 to 2002. Before Ghosh, Birendra Narayan Chakraborty, who was the Governor of Haryana, was also from Bengal. He contested the BJP ticket from Howrah Lok Sabha seat in June 2013 on a BJP ticket. The seat was vacant after the death of Trinamool Congress MP Ambika Banerjee. Aseem Ghosh lost the by -election.
- Away from active politics for 20 years: Senior BJP leader of West Bengal Aseem Ghosh has recently been appointed as the new Governor of Haryana. Ghosh has been a professor at Sri Shikshayatan College, North Kolkata. He was known as a disciplined and ideologically clear thinking intellectual in the upheaval era of West Bengal BJP. Although he left active politics about 20 years ago, his image in the party remained as a respected and guiding person.

Ghosh has reached Raj Bhavan The new Governor of Haryana Aseem Ghosh reached Chandigarh Raj Bhavan on Saturday. CM Naib Saini, Panchayat Minister Krishna Lal Panwar welcomed him on reaching Chandigarh. During this, he said in a conversation with the media, working for the great people of Haryana will be my first priority. I will cooperate with the Chief Minister and the administration, so that the common man can benefit. It is also my responsibility to listen to the suggestions of the opposition.

- Dharma Veera (1 November 1966 – 14 September 1967): The first Governor was studied in Dharma Veera London. He was an ICS (now called IAS) officer. He was a good player and a climb. The first Indians were also the first Indian to cross the Himalayan trailpas.
- BN Chakraborty (15 September 1967 – 26 March 1976): The second Governor BN Chakraborty was also an ICS officer. According to his last wish, he was cremated at the University Campus in Kurukshetra.
- Ranjit Singh Narula (27 March 1976- 13 August 1976): The third governor Ranjit Singh Narula grew up in Lahore. He was the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1974. Shortly after retirement, he became the Governor of Haryana.
- Jaysukh Lal (14 August 1976- 23 September 1977): The fourth Governor Jayasukh Lal Elephant was a resident of Gujarat. He was also a lawyer. He was a minister in the Gujarat government. Also went to Lok Sabha. He was also the Governor of Punjab after Haryana.
- Harcharan Singh Brar (24 September 1977- 9 December 1979): Harcharan Singh Brar became the fifth governor from the beginning. Interestingly, he was a leader who returned to active politics even after becoming the Governor and became the Chief Minister of Punjab.
- Surjit Singh Sandhwalia (10 December 1979- 27 February 1980): Surjit Singh Sandhwalia, the sixth governor, was also from Lailpur (now Pakistan). He was the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1978. Interestingly, he was the acting governor of Haryana in 1979-80. After that again he remained the Chief Justice in Patna High Court.
- Ganpati Rao Devji Tapase (28 February 1980- 13 June 1984): The seventh governor Ganpati Rao Devji was from Pune. Was participated in the Quit India Movement. He was in the headlines due to a dispute with Tau Devi Lal while the Governor of Haryana. No party had a majority in the 1982 election. The decision depended on the discretion of the Governor. Then Tapase administered the oath of office to Bhajanlal. Angered by this, Lok Dal leader Devi Lal left his hand on the governor.
- Syed Muzaffar Hussain Burney (14 June 1984- 21 February 1988): The 8th Governor Syed Muzaffar Hussain Burney was an IAS officer. He was very fond of writing and wrote many books in English besides Urdu. Apart from the Governor, he was the chairman of the Minorities Commission.
- Hari Anand Bari (22 February 1988- 6 February 1990): The 9th Governor Hari Anand Bari used to teach economics in Central Calcutta (now Kolkata) college by becoming an IPS officer. He was Chief of Intelligence Bureau. Barari, who was fond of yoga and playing, built a tennis court in Haryana Raj Bhavan.
- Dhanik Lal Mandal (7 February 1990 – 13 June 1995): The 10th Governor Dhanik Lal Mandal was from Bihar. Students came into politics from life. Jayaprakash Narayan (JP) participated in the total revolution. After being the Governor, he again returned to active politics.
- Mahabir Prasad (14 June 1995- 18 June 2000): The 11th Governor Mahabir Prasad was from UP and started a political journey by becoming the sarpanch of the village.
- Babu Parmanand (19 June 2000- 1 July 2004): 12th Governor Babu Parmanand was from Jammu and Kashmir. Farooq was the Finance Minister in the Abdula government.
- Om Prakash Verma (20 March 1937 – 8 December 2015): Verma was the Governor of Punjab in 2003-04. He also took over as the acting governor of Haryana for about five days. He was the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court and Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Human Rights Commission. He was born in Garhmukteshwar in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh.
- AR Kidwai (7 July 2004- 27 July 2009): The 13th Governor AR Kidwai was studying from the US in addition to Jamia Millia University. He was a professor at Aligarh University. Traveled to many countries.
- Jagannath Pahadia (27 July 2009- 26 July 2014): The 14th Governor Jagannath Pahadia was from Rajasthan. He traveled to 27 countries of the world. He died of Kovid-19 on 19 May 2021.
- Captain Singh Solanki (27 July 2014- 21 August 2018): The 15th Governor Captain Singh Solanki was. He was born in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. He also took over the additional charge of the Governor of Punjab and Himachal and Administrator of Chandigarh as the Governor of Haryana.
- Satyadev Narayan Arya (22 August 2018- 7 July 2021): Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya was from Nalanda in Bihar. He was a follower of Arya Samaj. He was the former Minister of Khan and Geology of Bihar.
- Bandaru Dattatreya (7 July 2021- July 2025): Born in Hyderabad, Dattatreya joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1965 and went to jail during the Emergency. In 1991, for the first time, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Secunderabad constituency.
