The Supreme Court has taken a tough stand on inhumanity with a police constable in the name of interrogation at the Joint Interrogation Center in Kupwara. The court has handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI. A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta has ordered the arrest of the accused officers within 1 month. Also, the Jammu and Kashmir government has also asked for compensation of Rs 50 lakh to constable Khurshid Ahmed Chauhan.
On 20 February 2023, Constable Khurshid was called to the Joint Interrogation Center in Kupwara for questioning in a case of NDPS Act (Anti -Drug Act). It is alleged that there was inhuman torture by keeping him closed for 6 days there. Even his private organs were damaged. On 26 February, he was sent to a hospital in a half -hearted condition. A case of Section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) was registered against the constable to cover the case.
Now the Supreme Court has canceled the case registered against Khurshid Ahmed. The court has asked the CBI to arrest Khurshid against the police officers who had inhuman torture police officers at the Intarogation Center. The CBI has also been asked to complete the investigation of the case in 3 months. Other aspects of disturbances in the center should also be kept under investigation.
