Former India wicketkeeper Farooqh Engineer and West Indies captain Clive Lloyd will now have a stand at the historic Old Trafford Maidan in England. This honor will be given to him by his former county team Lancashire.

According to sources, this stand-mammarking ceremony can be held on the first day of the fourth Test between India and England starting on 23 July. England are currently 2–1 in the five-match series.

A England cricket official said, it is a suitable and respectable initiative for both veterans.

Farukh plays 175 matches for Lancashire

  • Farooq Engineer played 175 matches for Lancashire between 1968 and 1976, in which he did 5942 runs, 429 catches and 35 stumpings.
  • Before his arrival, Lancashire did not win a big title in 15 years, but in his presence, the team won the Gilet Cup four times between 1970 and 1975.
  • Two -time World Cup winning captain Clive Lloyd spent almost two decades with Lancashire and brought revolutionary changes in the team’s game. He joined the club as a foreign player in the 1970s.

Farooq lives in Manchester

The 87 -year -old Farooq Engineer has made Manchester his permanent residence. He told the club’s website in an old interview, Old Trafford was a great place, people used to come from far and wide to see us.

He further said, we could see the Warwick Road railway station from the dressing room, and before the match, the crowds used to get out of the trains, hearing the echoes of excited voices and laughter. Our locker was full of autographs and party invitations.

The team was discussed a lot with names like Clive Lloyd, Harry Pilling, Peter Lever and Ken Shuttleworth. We became the most famous ODI team of that era.

No honor was found in Brabourne Stadium

Interestingly, where Farooq Engineer played the most cricket at the Brabourne Stadium in India, there is no stand in his name. Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar, who is in Manchester on a private tour, may attend the ceremony. Senior club officials will also be present.
