The opposition attacked the central government on the statement of the Vice President. The opposition called it an interference in the independence of the judiciary. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had said that, ‘Vice Presidents are breaking the constitutional dignity’.

In May 2024, Vice President Dhankhar made a statement of ‘threatening democracy’. There was a lot of dispute about which. He had said, “Some people are engaged in ending democracy, and they should be in the dock of traitors, not in Parliament.”

In October 2024, he made a statement in support of CBI and ED. Vice President Dhankhar had said that, ‘questioning the CBI and ED weakens India’s judicial system.’

Dhankhar, citing the 1948 press release, described it as a verified statement.
