The incident took place on the morning of 17 July. Five armed men entered the ICU of Paras Hospital in Patna. Gangster Chandan Mishra was fired. Chandan was serving life imprisonment in a case of murder. Came out on parole to treat piles. The CCTV footage of this shootout went viral on social media, in which the attackers were seen going to the ICU with weapons.

The main accused Tausif Emperor has been identified through CCTV footage. There are already several criminal cases against Tausif. These include serious sections under the Arms Act and NDPS Act. The other three accused caught with him have been identified as Nishu Khan, Harsh and Bhima. Nishu is the cousin of Tausif and he has also been wanted in many cases related to the Arms Act.

The Bihar Police, along with the Kolkata Police and Special Task Force (STF), conducted a joint operation on 20 July for the arrest of the four. After the arrest, the four were produced in the local court of Kolkata and the transit remand was sought and now they are being brought to Patna and produced in the court, so that police remand can be questioned.
