The process of removing Justice Yashwant Verma trapped in the cash scandal has started. On July 21, on the first day of the monsoon session, notices of impeachment against him in both houses of Parliament were handed over to the presiding officers. These are signed by 215 MPs of the opposition (152 in the Lok Sabha and 63 in the Rajya Sabha).
The impeachment motion has received support from MPs of BJP, Congress, TDP, JDU, CPM and other parties. Among those who sign MPs are also MPs like Rahul Gandhi, Anurag Thakur, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Rahul Gandhi, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Supriya Sule, KC Venugopal and PP Chaudhary.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar had informed about this in the House. For the first time in independent India, impeachment motion has come against a working judge of the High Court.

- Investigation committee will be formed: Now Parliament will investigate under Article 124, 217, 218. According to Section 31B of the Judge Investigation Act 1968, when on the same day, the Joint Investigation Committee is formed when they give impeachment notice in both houses.
- Report in three months: The committee will have a senior judge of the Supreme Court, current Chief Justice of a High Court and a reputed jurist. The committee will investigate the allegations against Justice Verma and report in three months.
- Will report in Parliament: The committee will submit the investigation report in Parliament. Both houses will discuss. The proposal to remove Justice Verma will be voted.
Justice Verma’s house was found unaccoun after the fire

Justice Verma’s bungalow in Lutyens was on fire on the night of 14 March. It was extinguished by the personnel of the fire department. Justice Verma was out of the city at the time of the incident. On March 21, some reports claimed that 15 crore cash was received from Justice Verma’s house. Many notes were burnt.
Many videos of the incident also appeared. In this, sacks filled with bundles of 500-500 rupees were seen from the store room of Justice’s house. Justice Verma was a Justice of the Delhi High Court at that time. He was later transferred to the Allahabad High Court.
CJI committee convicted Justice Verma On 22 March, the then CJI Sanjeev Khanna formed a three -member committee to investigate the allegations against Justice Verma. The panel submitted its report to CJI on 4 May. In this, Justice Verma was convicted.

Justice Verma and his family had control on the store room The report of the Supreme Court panel investigating the cash scandal was revealed on June 19. The 64 -page report said that Justice Yashwant Verma and his family members had a secret or active control on the store room.
In the 10 -day investigation, 55 witnesses were questioned and the official residence of Justice Verma was visited. The report stated that there are enough facts in the allegations. The allegations are so serious that action should be initiated to remove Justice Verma.
Acting on the report, former CJI Khanna wrote a letter to President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi recommending impeachment against Justice Verma.

Justice Verma challenged the report of the internal inquiry committee in SC Justice Yashwant Verma filed a petition in the Supreme Court on 18 July. He requested to cancel the in-house committee report and the recommendation of impeachment.
