Vice President of India and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from his post. He has cited health reasons behind this. However, after the resignation, some more discussions have also intensified. The social media of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh was posted. He wrote in his post that till about 5 pm I was with him, there were many other MPs with him and I had a phone conversation with him at 7:30 pm. The meeting of the Rajya Sabha BAC was scheduled at 1 pm and he was also going to make some announcements related to the judiciary.

During the monsoon session of Parliament on Monday (21 July 2025), 63 MPs of opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha signed the impeachment against Justice Verma and handed over to Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Jagdeep Dhankhar accepted this proposal of opposition parties against Justice Verma, while the government wanted to bring the impeachment motion to the Lok Sabha. Regarding this, 145 MPs of the opposition and the opposition also handed over the proposal to the Lok Sabha Speaker, but now after the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, this development is being seen by linking it to that impeachment motion. There are speculations that the government was angry due to the acceptance of the opposition’s proposal.

The Congress says that Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post as the government’s displeasure increased, but it is only a discussion, while he has clearly cited health reasons in his resignation. On a public platform, he raised the issue of farmers’ movement, when Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan was also present on the stage. As Vice President, his statement was made a fierce issue by the opposition.
