Erica mCenterfer Sacked: US President Donald Trump on Friday dismissed the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Commissioner Erica McCenter. Trump accused him without any evidence that he had “manipulated” political purpose in the monthly employment report.
According to CNN report, the BLS report of the month of July shown a growth of only 73,000 jobs in the US economy, which was much lower than the expectation of analysts.
2.58 lakh deduction in May-June data
The report stated that a total of 2.58 lakh jobs have been deducted in the data declared before the months of May and June. After these amendments, the hiring rate of the last three months has reached the slowest pace after the epidemic. Describing it as a conspiracy, Trump said, “According to me, today’s employment figures were prepared by rigging so that the Republican and I was harmed.”
‘BLS process is amended twice’
However, according to experts, amendment to employment data is a common process. The initial monthly estimate of BLS is based on incomplete data, which is later revised twice and an annual amendment is made in February. Despite this, Trump on Friday called these amendments a “fierce mistake”.
Accused of benefiting former Vice President Kamla Harris
Trump wrote on social media platform Truth Social Social, ‘McCaeterfar said that only 73,000 jobs were attached, but more than that, he cut the figures of the last two months by 2.58 lakhs. This has happened before, always in a negative way. Trump alleged that all this was done to benefit former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
‘Numbers were fake so I removed them’
According to CNN report, Trump said in a conversation with reporters on the South Lawn of the White House, ‘We are doing very well. I think these figures were fake, as earlier before the election. So I removed them (McCenter) and I think I took the right decision.
