Human trafficking is an organized crime, in which deception, greed, forced or forceful people are taken away from their home or country and exploited them. It consists of forcible wages, sexual abuse/prostitution, organ trade and smuggling for marriage.
The bail in this case is “non-ballistic”. Especially in matters related to children or women, arrest is mandatory as soon as an FIR occurs. Talking about the punishment, the court may be sentenced to 10 years, life imprisonment and fine.

In fact, on 25 July, missionary sisters and a young man were walking at the railway station with 3 girls. During this time, Bajrang Dal activists saw a girl crying. During this time, the young man who came with him was telling the girl that you had come so far, so you have to go.
During this time, the workers of Bajrang Dal were listening to the conversation of the youth. In such a situation, he suspected the missionary sister and the young man. Bajrang Dal activists questioned the three. It was learned that the missionary sister and the youth were taking the three girls to Agra.
Bajrang Dal activists created a ruckus at the station when the conversation between the missionary sister and the youth was suspicious. Amid the uproar, the three girls, 2 nuns and a young man with them were caught by the GRP and brought to the police station.

Bajrang Dal activists started a ruckus by alleging human trafficking and conversion and shouted slogans in the GRP outpost of Durg railway station. During this time, information was given to Durg District Convenor Ravi Nigam of Bajrang Dal and State Convenor Jyoti Sharma of Bajrang Dal.
During this time, state convenor of Bajrang Dal Jyoti Sharma also reached the police station with the workers. Jyoti Sharma accused the missionary sister (nun) of selling and conversion by taking the women on the pretext of jobs.
Also said that this matter is not only about getting jobs, but is related to human trafficking and conversion. After this, there was an FIR against both Nun Preeti Mary and Vandana Francis. He was arrested.

On 25 July 2025, FIR took place in GRP police station fort. In this, a case was registered under BNS Section 143 Human trafficking and a case under non-bailable offense. Also, the offense of conversion without permission 4 of Chhattisgarh Religion Freedom Act 1968.

Christian organizations demonstrated in many districts of Chhattisgarh Durg, Raipur, Raigad, Korba and Jagdalpur. This matter arose in Parliament. Kerala MPs Derek O Bryan and Binoy Vishwam described the incident in the Rajya Sabha as a “attack on the Christian community”. He called it an arrest inspired by political malice and religious intolerance.

Bail plea of nuns rejected from Durg Court
At the same time, after the arrest of the nuns, a bail petition was filed in the Durg Sessions Court on 30 July, from where the court dismissed the bail. Durg advocate Ashish Shukla told in 5 points why the sessions court refused to grant bail to the nuns.
- No right to hear in NIA cases- The court said that the Durg District Sessions Court does not have the right to hear the case under the NIA Act 2008. Durg is not included in the list of special courts authorized by the state government.
- Serious allegations, not ordinary: The case is not just conversion, but is also related to alleged smuggling and pressure conversion attempts by taking tribal girls out of the state, which is a crime of serious nature.
- Tribal girls are suspected to take information without taking information: According to the prosecution and argument of the objection, the three women were being carried out secretly without informing the authority, which raises questions on the intention of the incident.
- Fear of spreading religious frenzy: The court was told that after the arrest at the GRP police station, political organizations demonstrated and pressurized, causing social stress. On getting bail, it was feared to happen again.
