Congress veteran Mani Shankar Aiyar spoke on India’s foreign policy on Friday (August 1, 2025) to impose 25 percent tariffs on India on India. He said that we have to show the world that we are independent and are not running after anyone’s friendship.
The Congress leader said that this is in the interest of both of us countries (America and India). Our policy is not to have a kind of relationship with China and exactly opposite America. This is not diplomacy.

He said that despite big events like ‘Howdy Modi’ and ‘Namaste Trump’, today’s situation is such that Pakistan is being praised. Not the Prime Minister of Pakistan but his field marshal is being praised, which has declared himself a field martial. America is hugging India, but is having handshake from Pakistan. In such a situation, what is the benefit of hugging?
He said that it seems that after 2014 we made some mistakes in diplomatic direction. We tried to show Pakistan a face, another to China, adopt a separate policy for Russia and separate for Europe. Show another face to America, but such a scattered strategy does not lead to any meaningful results.
He said that although what is happening in Gaza, despite that massacre, we openly supported America’s closest colleague Israel. We are not ready to say or vote against them, but what was the result, what did we get?
Only this country accepted Pakistan responsible for the Pahalgam attack
The Congress leader said that today Trump is saying that India has the most tariffs in the world. I brought peace between India and Pakistan. Pakistan is considering it as Pakistan, while India is not believing. India’s attitude is that we have done ourselves. In such a situation, we are feeling all the punishment ourselves and Pakistan is feeling all the benefit.
He said that there is no such country except Israel who says that Pakistan is behind the terrorist incident. The UN Security Council met within two days of the Pahalgam terror attack, with China a permanent member and Pakistan is a temporary member. Pahalgam terror attack was denied in the meeting, but did not say who is behind it. Pakistan is responsible for the attack, we are not able to present evidence of this.
