Kerala nuns get bail: Nun Preeti Mary, Vandana Francis and Sukhman Mandavi have eventually got bail in the case of famous conversion and human trafficking of Chhattisgarh. This bail has been given by the Special NIA court in Bilaspur with conditions. The court has filled a bond of 50-50 thousand rupees from the three and their passport and visa have been confiscated. Without the permission of the court, they will no longer be able to go out of the country.
What was the whole matter?
On July 25, on the complaint of Bajrang Dal at Durg railway station, RPF detained the three accused. It was alleged that these three were taking the girls of Narayanpur to seduce them forcibly in Christianity. The case was considered very serious, and earlier it was produced in the sessions court of Durg, but the court refused to hear, citing jurisdiction. After this, this case went to the special court of NIA, from where all three have now got bail.
Why did the court bail?
The special NIA court in Bilaspur admitted that the three had no relation with any kind of criminal activities before that. Apart from this, no concrete evidence was found in this case that can prove forcibly conversion. The court also admitted that the women who were accused in the case clearly made a statement that they were already following Christianity and sent their daughters for work.
Defense logic
Defense lawyer Amrito Das argued that both nuns were engaged in social work and have no criminal history. Apart from this, the three women who were being taken along, had expressed their desire to travel themselves. Neither any force was used, nor was any force. A written statement of the parents of women was also presented in the court, in which it was clearly stated that they are already Christians and are sending their daughters on their own free will. On this basis, the court approved the bail.
