The police have so far registered five FIRs against more than 500 people in the case of communal violence erupted due to a social media post in Yawat village in Daund tehsil of Pune district. 17 people have been detained in connection with the incidents of violence and arson, while the youth who posted objectionable posts has been arrested.
According to the police, communal tension spread in the village after a young man put objectionable posts on social messaging platform on Friday afternoon. Angry people set the vehicles and properties on fire while committing violence. To disperse the crowd, the police had to release tear gas shells and resort to lathicharge.
Five FIRs, identity of more than 100
According to news agency PTI, an official of Yawat police station said, “So far five cases related to violence have been registered. Four of these cases are registered against more than 500 people who were involved in violence, arson and property loss. Out of 100 of them have been identified and 17 have been detained.”
Which properties were targeted?
During the incident, the miscreants damaged a motorcycle, two cars, a religious structure and a bakery and set them on fire. The police immediately took control of the situation while handling the front and peace was restored in the village.
Police said that an FIR has also been registered against the young man who had posted a post hurting the religious sentiment and he has been arrested.
Section 144 and SRPF deployed
Pune Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill said that the preliminary investigation has not received signs of any pre -planned conspiracy. He said, “The situation in the village is now under control. A large number of police forces and state reserved police forces have been deployed. Prohibition has been implemented under Section 144 of BNS and Section 163 of BNSS.”
Additional Superintendent of Police Ganesh Biradar said, “The village is being monitored through drones and social media activities are also being monitored.”
Presence of leaders on the spot
BJP MLA from Daund, Rahul Kul also visited the violence-affected area on Friday night and interacted with Sunil Phulari, Special Inspector General of Kolhapur Range and other senior officials.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who visited Pune, said, “A young man put an objectionable post on a Hindu priest with an objectionable post related to the incident in Madhya Pradesh, which spread anger in the village. Some people deliberately want to spread tension by putting such posts. Strict action will be taken against them.”
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also visited the village and told that the young man who posted the post is a resident of Nanded and is a daily wage laborer. The material he shared was based on the incident in another state.
