Shashi Tharoor on VP: Who will be the next Vice President of the country after Jagdeep Dhankhar? Shashi Tharoor gave this answer

India’s Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament on 21 July. He cited health reasons, but the opposition says that he not only resigned because of health, but was sought to resign from him.

Jagdeep Dhankhar’s term was till August 10, 2027, but he resigned before the term ended. When Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was asked who would be the next Vice President of the country, he said that there is no idea of it. He said that it is clear that the next Vice President will be nominated by the ruling party, as the structure of voters is already decided. Tharoor also hoped that the central government would consult the opposition, but at the same time we hope that they will also consult the opposition, but who knows.

Know how the election for the post of Vice President is?

The Vice President of India is elected by an electoral college which only consists of elected members of the Lok Sabha and elected and nominated members of the Rajya Sabha. The total number of voters is 782. It consists of 542 members of Lok Sabha and 240 members of Rajya Sabha. The Vice President requires 391 votes to win. The election process will start on 7 August. The last date for nomination has been fixed on 21 August and the result will come out on 9 September.

Will NDA easily win the election of Vice President?

The ruling NDA alliance currently has 293 members in the Lok Sabha and 129 members in the Rajya Sabha. In this way, he has a total of 422 votes votes. This makes it clear that if the NDA remains united, their nominated candidate can easily win the post of Vice President. On the basis of this calculation, Shashi Tharoor’s statement seems rational that this election has become just a process.

Jagdeep Dhankhar’s tenure

Dhankhar has been a vocal and active Vice President. He presided over several important Bills as the Chairman of Rajya Sabha and tried to bring clarity and discipline in the proceedings. However, some controversies also came up during his tenure, such as disagreement with the government’s stand on the impeachment of Justice Yashwant Verma, a possible disagreement with the Center and the President’s Secretariat, including sharp dialogues with the opposition. His health problems were also serious and recently he was admitted to a hospital in Nainital.
