West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday (August 3, 2025) targeted the Bengali language as ‘Bangladeshi National Language’ in an alleged letter on Delhi Police. He alleged that it is derogatory, anti-national and unconstitutional. In fact, this letter related to the investigation of a case under the Foreign Act was written to the officer in charge of the official guest house (Bang Bhavan) of the State Government in the national capital.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief described the central government as anti-Bengali and urged everyone to protest against such an anti-constitutional language to humiliate the Bangla-speaking people of the country.

Bangla is the language in which the national anthem of India (Jana Gana Mana composed by Tagore) and the national song Vande Mataram composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay were both written.
