5 kanwadis died in an accident in Bhagalpur, Bihar late Sunday night near Sultanganj. 4 have been injured who are undergoing treatment in the hospital.

The injured Kanwari Abhishek told that they were going to Sultanganj for 9 people from pickup to Ganga. From there, he was going to worship in Jethore Nath Temple after filling water.
The current spread in the pickup while overtaking the auto rickshaw near the Mahato place of Belthu on the Shahkund-Sultanganj road. They jumped into the water 30 feet below to escape. The car fell over them from above.

Late night rescue
Those who died have been identified as Santosh Kumar (18), Manoj Kumar (24), Vikram Kumar (23) and Kaswa Kherhi’s Ankush Kumar (18), Ravish Kumar alias Munna (18), residents of old Kherhi Bazar of Shahkund.
On receiving information about the incident, the police of Shahkund police station reached the spot and took everyone to the ambulance community health center. However, the doctors declared everyone dead after investigation. The police tried to get the pickup van out of JCB. Local divers were also called. The family reached the hospital as soon as the news of the accident was received. The rescue continued till late night.
Demand for compensation, road jam
The family of the deceased has blocked the Shahkund-Asarganj main road to demand compensation. Shahkund Thanedar Jagannath Sharan said, ‘The incident happened due to negligence. People are gathering on the road in protest. Efforts are being made to convince the family along with the local public representatives and the people of the peace committee.
