England star batsman Joe Root broke the world record of former Australia captain Ricky Ponting by scoring a century in the second innings of the Oval Test against India.
Former England captain Joe Root has scored fiercely in the Test series against India. On Sunday (August 3), he created history when he broke the record of scoring the most centuries in the home Test.
Joe Root scored a century in the second innings of the India-England Test at the Oval. This is the 24th Test century of this dhurandhar in England. With this century innings, Joe Root overtook former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, Jacks Kallis and Mahela Jayawardene.
Joe Root’s name has been recorded for scoring the most centuries while playing at home. Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, former South African all -rounder Jacks Kallis and former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene had scored 23 centuries in the domestic Test.
Joe Root completed his century by taking two runs off the first ball of the 69th over of England’s second innings. This over was thrown by Akash Deep in the third session of the fourth day. Root also broke the record of former English batsman Jack Hobbes by scoring a century in the fifth Test.
Jack Hobbes scored 12 Test centuries for England against a team. Hobbes scored 12 Test centuries against Australia during his sports days and now Root’s name has scored 13 Test centuries against India.
In the second innings of the Oval Test against India, Joe Root played 152 balls and scored 105 runs with the help of 12 fours. He has played a century in the third consecutive match.
Joe Root scored 104 runs in the first innings of the Lord’s Test during this series, while in the Manchester Test, he played an important role in scoring a big score for the team by scoring 150 runs in the first innings against India.
