The area called “Aurora” located in the northern part of the British Columbia has created a stir in the mineral world. Here, the presence of copper and gold was detected during drilling just 59 feet below the surface. Due to this, the eyes of the world have once again turned towards this remote area of Canada.
The importance of this discovery increases even more, because this site was almost unknown till now and there was no drilling before 2024. Experts believe that it is rare to find such rich mineral content at such a shallow level, and it can be a game changer for the mining sector.
The Golden Triangle is already famous for its geological ability. It has become even more discussed now. The region is located on a volcanic arc and had long remained a mystery for mineral scientists.
Although the pace of research and drilling was slow due to the harsh climate and hard geographical conditions, now climate change and technological progress have turned this challenge into opportunity. This region is now becoming a center of attraction for global investors.
The most special thing about this discovery is that the first drilling was done in JP24057 holes, which started from just 59 feet deep and went up to 131 feet. It was found to have 1.24 grams/tonnes of gold and 0.38% copper. Surprisingly, the second drill of the same area found even more better figures at a depth of 190 feet – 1.97 g/tonnes of gold and 0.49% copper.
Getting high-quality minerals at such a low depth not only reduces mining costs, but it also makes it financially more profitable. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the demand for copper will be doubled by 2040 due to electric vehicles, renewable energy and data centers.
Copper has now become the basis of modern technology infrastructure, not just a metal. Electric cars have three times copper than traditional vehicles. Apart from this, the head grade of minerals is decreasing in traditional porphyry mines around the world. In such a situation, new places like British Columbia are now emerging on the global strategic map.
Another strength of the Aurora region is its geographical location and the current infrastructure. The roads, transmission lines and adjacent resource centers already there increase the possibilities of the project manifold. In addition, copper and gold prices in the global market are still in a stable or rising trend, which makes this discovery even more attractive.
