National Security Minister Itamar Ben Giwir prayed at the Israeli government on Sunday (3 August 2025) at the Al-Aksa Mosque in Jerusalem. This provoked many Islamic countries including Pakistan. Pakistan and Turki said that the minister of Benjamin Netanyahu has crossed the red line.
An insult to the religious faith of Muslims- Pakistan
According to Israeli media, this is the first time when a minister posted became vocal and led the prayers here. It is also believed that religious tension may erupted after his visit to the Al-Aksa Mosque. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said, “One of the holiest sites of Islam is an insult. It is not only an insult to the religious faith of more than one billion Muslims around the world, but an attack on international law and humanity.”
‘Will free Al-Aksa Masjid from Hamas’s possession’
He accused Israel of stressing tension in the middle East. The Pakistani PM immediately talked about implementing ceasefire and restoration of peace. Visiting the Al-Aksa Mosque, Israeli Minister Ben Giwir reiterated the Israeli resolution ‘Sovereignty in Gaza’ and announced that it would be freed from Hamas’s possession.
Palestine on red line- Palestine
Regarding this, Palestine President Mahmood Abbas said that the action of Ben Giwir did it on the red line. Palestinian government minister Nabel Abu Rudenih spoke of interfering in this matter. He said that the war is going on in Gaza on the one hand, on the other hand, the Avkaswa action has been taken by going to the Al-Aksa Mosque. According to Jordan’s Foreign Ministry, Israel is not entitled to the sovereignty of Al-Aksa Mosque.
There has been a long-standing dispute between the Jews and Muslims over control over the Al-Aksa Mosque. Jews call it Temple Mount and consider it as their holy place. In Islam, the Al-Aksa Mosque is considered the third holiest site after Mecca and Medina.
