On Thursday (July 07, 2025) in Telangana’s capital Hyderabad and many other parts of the state, heavy rains severely affected life. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) report, light to moderate rains were recorded in the city on Thursday, due to which water logging and traffic chaos were seen in many areas.
The IMD has also issued rain warnings for the next two days (9 and 10 August 2025), under which there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rains in many districts of Hyderabad and Telangana.
Water filled with knee on the streets
In Hyderabad on Thursday, intermittent rain started from morning, which intensified by noon and evening. According to the Telangana Development Planning Committee (TGDPS) data, some areas recorded rains up to 74.5 mm, including areas such as Banjara Hills, Kukatpalli and Srinagar Colony.
Due to heavy rains, water logging situation arose in low -lying areas such as Santosh Nagar, Champapet, Malakpet, and Attapur. The roads were flooded to the knees, causing heavy obstacles in the movement of vehicles. There were also reports of manhole being opened in many places, which posed a threat to passengers and local residents.
A part of the Charminar collapsed
The historic Charminar of Hyderabad was also damaged due to rain. Archaeological Survey Department (ASI) officials have confirmed that a part of the stux collapsed at the second level of one tower of Charminar due to heavy rains. Fortunately, there was no loss of life in this incident and experts are now assessing the needs of restoration.
Traffic and electricity disrupted
Heavy rains stalled normal life in Hyderabad and surrounding areas. Roads were submerged in major areas such as Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Panjagutta, Khairatabad, Malakpet and Gachibovali, which led to traffic jams.
Electricity supply was interrupted at many places and incidents of tree fall were also recorded. The situation worsened due to the shortcomings of the drainage system of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), which was severely criticized by the local residents.
CM released alert in Telangana
In a video that went viral on social media, it was seen that ambulances and motorcycles got stuck in water in areas like Attapur. In some areas, reports of electric poles and wires being damaged were also revealed, which delayed the restoration of power supply. Telangana Chief Minister A.K. Revanth Reddy instructed the local administration, GHMC, police, and Hydraa to make coordinated efforts to reduce the effects of rain.

According to the IMD, the monsoon activity in Telangana is intensifying due to an upper air cyclone (UAC) and trough in the Bay of Bengal. Hyderabad and surrounding areas are likely to thunder and strong winds with light to moderate rains. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 28 ° C and the minimum temperature is around 20 ° C.
Alert released in these districts
The IMD especially Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mehboobabad, Warangal, Hanmakonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangahadi, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajagiri, Vikarabad, Sangreddy, Medak, Kama Rayedi, Mahbubnagar, Nagarakurnapanat and Jogulbanadan Warning has been issued.
The Meteorological Department has advised the residents to avoid unnecessary travel and keep an eye on the weather updates. GHMC and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are engaged in relieving water logging and relief operations in affected areas.
