However, people will remember Mohammad Siraj’s tremendous performance (23 wickets in five Tests) in the Indo-England Test series, Shubman Gill (754 runs in five Tests), KL Rahul (532), Yashasvi Jaiswal (411 runs) and Rishabh Pant (479), and Washington Sundar will remember the brilliant all-round performance (284 runs in four Tests and seven wickets).
Dilip Vengsarkar, who plays 116 Tests for India, has also been responsible for the Chief Selector of India till 2006-08. On Sunday, he said in an interview to Times of India:
In view of the importance of India-England series and weak back, BCCI, selectors and Indian team management should not have been allowed to play Bumrah in IPL 2025. For this prestigious series, it was very important for us to have a fully fit and refreshed Bumrah. If I were the chief selector of India, I would explain to Mukesh Ambani (owner of Mumbai Indians) and Bumrah that it is necessary for Bumrah to stay out of the IPL for the England series. I am sure they would agree to do so.
Such a series is probably once in four years. I believe that India will not play a series of five Test matches till January 2027 (against Australia). It was a memorable series and I wish Bumrah would be available for almost all Test matches. If this were so, we could have won the series.
Jasprit Bumrah had to stay out of the 2025 Champions Trophy in UAE. India’s star Pesar played 12 matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL-2025, in which he bowled 47.2 overs and took 18 wickets.
