MPs of the opposition ‘India’ (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) coalition started a march from Parliament House to Election Commission headquarters on Monday (August 11, 2025) to protest against the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar and the alleged “vote theft”. During this time, Delhi Police tried to stop them. MPs created a lot of uproar, after which the police took several opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi into custody. Senior leader of India Block – Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP SCP chief Sharad Pawar have also attended March.
Police stopped march in between
The purpose of the March was to submit a memorandum to the Election Commission, but the police stopped the march on the way. After this, there was a sharp noise between MPs and security forces. DCP Devesh Kumar Mahala of New Delhi said, “… The Election Commission had given a letter that 30 MPs could meet him, but more than 200 MPs came marching from Parliament. We stopped them to save their security and law and order situation. Later they were taken into custody. Some MPs also tried to cross barricades. They have also been arrested.”
Rahul Gandhi targeted the center
A protest march started from the Capricorn Gate of Parliament House under the leadership of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The MPs started their march to urge the Election Commission to address their concerns on the alleged “vote theft”. The MPs were shouting slogans of “vote thief”, moving towards the Election Office in the Election House, but the police stopped them. During the protest, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, “The reality is that they cannot talk. The truth is in front of the country. This fight is not political. This fight is to save the constitution. This fight is a person, one vote. We want a clean voter list.”
Dharmendra Pradhan accused Congress of misleading public
BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “The country can see that if someone is working against the Constitution, Rahul Gandhi is leading it. SIR is not happening for the first time in the country. Congress lies on EVMs, Maharashtra elections, Haryana raises the issue of elections and creates a mountain of lies … I am a well-planned strategy to create a situation of chaos … I appeal to the Parliament … The Opposition and the Congress had no agenda during the discussion on Operation Sindoor … “
