Washington’s Democrat Mayor Murial Baujar opposed Trump’s move and said that violent crimes in the country’s capital were at a 30 -year low in 2024 and in 2025 it has decreased by up to 26%. However, gun violence remains a concern, as Washington DC was third in the big American cities in the case of violent incidents of DC firing in 2023.

Critics say that Trump’s move is part of his strategy to target Democrat-Shamed cities and increase federal control over local law enforcement. His opponents consider it inspired by politics.
