Main things of Putin-Trump meeting
After meeting with Trump on Saturday (16 August 2025), Putin said that he discussed ways to end the war on a fair ground. This meeting was very useful according to the time. Trump also described the meeting as effective, but said that no final agreement has been reached yet. He also pressured Ukraine to accept Russia’s ceasefire conditions.
American tariff and India’s displeasure
A few days before the call, the US announced a new 25% tariff (fine fee) on India. The reason for this was to buy crude oil from Russia at concessional rates of India. On this, Trump alleged that this oil trade is providing financial help to Russia-Ukraine War. However, India strongly opposed this and said that western countries can buy energy at an expensive price, but India needs cheap supply in view of the energy needs of 1.4 billion people. India described this tariff as unfair and irrational.
