The objective of the National Sports Bill …

What are national anti-doping bills National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025 is a law that has been brought in India to create the system of preventing doping according to international standards. Its main objective is to ensure that the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) of India works completely independently and the government does not directly interfere.

Why was it brought?

  • The National Anti-Doping Act passed in 2022, but WDA (World Anti Doping Agency) expressed some objections to it.
  • WADA had an objection that the National Board for Anti-Doping in Sports built in India had the right to monitor and direct NADA, which he considered “government intervention”.
  • If the WADA rules were not followed, India might have to face restrictions in international sports competitions.

What were the changes in 2025?

  • The board (National Board for Anti-Doping) will remain, but now it will not have the right to monitor or direct NADA.
  • NADA has been given Operational Independence (complete freedom of operation).
  • This means that the decisions related to doping will be taken only by NADA experts and officers, not the government or any political appointed person.

What will be the benefit?

  • India’s anti-doping system will correspond to the WADA rules.
  • Players will get fair investigation and hearing in doping cases.
  • There will be credit in India’s international sports and there will be no danger of any ban or suspension.
