Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief AP Singh on Wednesday expressed concern over the delay in the delivery of Tejas fighter aircraft. He said the first consignment of 40 Tejas aircraft ordered in 2009-2010 has not yet been received.
He also said that when countries like China are investing heavily in their air force, India also needs to increase its production capacity. Air Chief Marshal AP Singh said these things during the 21st Subroto Mukherjee Seminar.
Singh said that the Tejas fighter jet project was started in 1984. The first aircraft flew in 2001, but after 15 years it was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 2016. But the delivery of the first 40 Tejas aircraft ordered for the Air Force has not been completed yet.
China’s 6th generation jet tested China has recently tested its 6th generation stealth fighter jet. On this the Air Chief Marshal said that our northern and western neighbors are rapidly increasing their military strength. Both China’s new technology and numbers are a matter of concern.
Actually, after America, China has developed two stealth fighter jets (J-20 and J-35). Now their 6th generation fighter jet is also ready for trials.
Private companies should be involved in manufacturing AP Singh appealed for more funds for Research and Development (R&D). He said that if there is a delay, the importance of technology is lost.
Also said that we should involve private companies in manufacturing, we need competition. We have to provide multiple sources so that people can perform better without fear of losing their orders. Otherwise things will not change.
HAL to deliver 83 aircraft by 2028 HAL had received a contract worth Rs 46,898 crore in 2021 to make 83 Tejas Mark-1A for the Indian Air Force. The company is scheduled to deliver 83 aircraft between 2024 and 2028.
PM Modi has flown in Tejas Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew in Tejas fighter plane in Bengaluru on 25 November 2022. This was the first flight of an Indian Prime Minister in a fighter plane. Before flying in Tejas, Modi also reached Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru. Tejas has been developed by HAL. It is a single engine light fighter aircraft. Two of its squadrons have been included in the Air Force.
