New Delhi. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli suddenly announced his retirement from Test cricket before the tour of England and they did not get to play Farewell matches in this format. Rajiv Shukla, Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has urged the fans not to worry too much about the farewell match of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Both players are fit and playing well. He supported ‘very fit’ Kohli and ‘very good player’ Rohit. For the last few days, his career is expected to end soon.

In an interview for the UPT20 league, Shukla was asked whether these two veterans of Indian cricket would get a farewell match like Sachin Tendulkar, as in 2013 at Wankhede Stadium. In response, he reminded that the pair is still playing ODI and the board will not ask them to retire while the decision about the farewell match will be taken at the right time.

Shukla said in the interview. “They have not yet retired, are you not? Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are playing ODIs. They have not taken retirement, so why are you worrying about their farewell? It is a stage to retire from two formats. They are still playing ODIs. Don’t worry so much. BCCI’s policy is quite clear. We do not have to retire. We do.”

When the host requested him to arrange a farewell match on behalf of the fans, Shukla said, “When the time comes, we will consider it. You are already arranging his farewell! Virat Kohli is very fit, and Rohit Sharma plays very well. Why are you worrying about his farewell?”

Kohli and Rohit took retirement from T20I cricket after winning the 2024 World Cup. He also said goodbye to Test career within a few days in May this year. India has not played any ODI cricket since IPL 2025, and the next series is scheduled in Australia in October. There is a discussion in the media that he can be asked to play in domestic competition, Vijay Hazare Trophy for expectations of playing in 2027 World Cup, but it remains to be seen whether it is true.
