A new Aadhaar card of people above 18 years of age will not be made in Assam. The Assam Cabinet has announced a ban on the issuance of Aadhaar cards for the next one year for all people except Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Tea Garden communities.
This announcement has been described by All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader Rafiqul Islam, Tughlaqi Islam and said that the government wants to stop people from voting.
Islam said that if a foreigner comes, he should take his country back into custody. Why give him an Aadhaar card, why add his name to the voter list and why give him citizenship.

Special Intensive Reservation is going to start in Assam as well. On this, Rafiqul said that the Chief Minister wants to prevent them from receiving Aadhaar cards and participating in voter list revision by targeting some people.
Decision will prevent illegal migrants from giving Indian citizenship
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the media two days ago that the ban has been imposed to illegal migrants to receive Aadhaar cards and prevent false claims of Indian citizenship. Sarma had said- We have sent Bangladeshi citizens back on the border continuously. We want to ensure that no illegal foreign state can come to the state and claim to be an Indian citizen from Assam.
