Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached China and today he will meet President Xi Jinping. This meeting will be held before the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit to be held in Tianjin. The Prime Minister will attend the SCO conference in Tianjin, Northern China from 31 August to 1 September. PM Modi posted on X on Saturday, ‘I have reached Tianjin, China. The SCO summit is awaited to discuss and meet various world leaders.
This meeting will be held at around 12 noon local time (9:30 am Indian time) and 40 minutes have been fixed for this. The meeting of the two leaders is taking place at a time when there is some softness in the relations between India and China. This is Modi’s first visit to China after seven years and will have a second meeting with President Xi Jinping in ten months. The last meeting took place during the BRICS 2024 conference held in Kazan city of Russia.

Usually, a bilateral meeting with the host country at a multilateral conference is not uncommon, but Modi-shee’s meeting is considered special because recently there has been a problem in the relations between America and India. President Donald Trump has imposed 50 percent tariff on India to buy oil from Russia. On 1 September, PM Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin may also have bilateral talks.
