Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the country’s aerospace company, is preparing to hand over two Tejas Mark-1 A fighter jets to the Indian Air Force next month. Defense Secretary RK Singh informed on Saturday that by the end of September, both these aircraft will be delivered with integration of arms.
The Defense Secretary said that the government will soon sign a new contract with HAL for the purchase of 97 additional Tejas jets. This contract will be around Rs 67,000 crore and it will be signed only when HAL will deliver the first two jets.

RK Singh said that at present, about 38 Tejas Jets in the Indian Air Force are already in service and about 80 development are in the phase. In February 2021, the Ministry of Defense signed a contract of Rs 48,000 crore with HAL for the purchase of 83 Tejas MK-1A jets, but the delivery of these aircraft is delayed.
American company delays engine supply
The biggest reason for the delay in delivery has been the American company Ge Aerospace, which has missed several deadline for the engine supply engine. The Defense Secretary said, “I have made it clear to HAL that we will sign a new contract only when they will deliver two Tejas jets with full packaging.”
HAL has next 4-5 year order book
RK Singh also said that the order book is ready for 4-5 years to HAL. He hoped that the company would be able to fully perfect this platform and integrate Indian radar and weapons in it.

Tejas Mark-1A will replace Mig-21 fighters
Tejas Mark-1A Jets will replace the old Mig-21 fighters of the Indian Air Force. Defense Secretary RK Singh said, “Tejas will work for us like a workheors with Sukhoi. However, there will still be a gap and we have to see some more platforms to fulfill it.”
