Flood destruction in Punjab
In Punjab, rain is raining as a sky. More than one thousand villages are on the verge of flood in 9 districts of the state. More than 40 villages in Dera Baba Nanak of Gurdaspur are affected by floods. The boom of Sutlej, Ravi and Vyas rivers has endangered the lives of many women and children. Food in gurdwaras in flood affected areas is being prepared and transported to the victims.
The situation has become uncontrollable due to torrential rains and floods in Ferozepur. Thousands of people are helpless due to the boom of Sutlej and Ravi river in more than 100 villages. Many houses in the Gatti Rajoke, Kaluwala and Tandiwala villages of the Indo-Pak border have become frozen. People are living in tents and gurudwaras there.
Army and administration relief action
Air Force and Army personnel arrived as angels amidst floods. MI-17 chopper and NDRF teams rescued people trapped on the banks of the Ravi river. Army, BSF and local administration are engaged in relief work.
According to former sarpanch Balbir Singh, some people reached relief camps, but returned due to lack of facilities. People have demanded compensation and rehabilitation from the government.
In this flood, the condition of not only humans but also animals is bad. In many villages, fodder is not available for animals.
The Meteorological Department has warned that the threat of flood and rain has not been postponed yet. The people of the state should take precautions and follow the instructions of the administration.
