Because the Trump administration has imposed 50% tariff on Indian goods and 30% on sugar imports. Responding to this question, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the two leaders discussed the global economic situation and accepted the challenges caused by it. However, his focus was mainly on bilateral issues. He considered how to increase better understanding and economic cooperation between India and China under the current circumstances.
Talk to India on a direct flight for China
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that direct flights between India and China are likely to be resumed soon. He said that after the high level of consent that took place earlier this year, there has been a deep talks between the two countries. The visit of the Indian Citizen Aviation delegation in Beijing has progressed and now the restoration of flights has been agreed. Work on some operational issues is going on, which will be resolved in the coming weeks. Prime Minister Modi also mentioned the restoration of flights in his comment.
Discussion on India-China trade deficit
When the Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri was questioned on the Indo-China trade deficit, he admitted that this deficit has been large and continuously and it has been negotiating for many years.
