Justin Trudeau responds to Donald Trump: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau once again rejected America’s newly elected President Donald Trump’s comment in which Trump had suggested that Canada could become America’s 51st state. Justin Trudeau called these comments of Donald Trump a distraction tactic.

In an interview with CNN, Justin Trudeau said, “That’s not going to happen. Canadians are very proud to be Canadian. We define ourselves most easily in the sense that we are not American.” He further said, “Donald Trump is a skilled negotiator, I think he is trying to divert people’s attention from this conversation.”

Suggested to increase tariff on Canada by 25 percent

President-elect Donald Trump recently suggested imposing a 25 percent tariff on all imports from Canada until Canada strengthens Ottawa’s border security. On this, Justin Trudeau warned that this step will affect the economy of both the countries. Trudeau said, “If tariffs increase, American consumers will have to face increased prices.”

Trudeau said, “If the US increases tariffs, oil, gas, electricity, steel, aluminium, lumber, concrete and everything else going from Canada to the US will suddenly become much more expensive.”

Trudeau mentioned the 2018 trade dispute

During this, Justin Trudeau also mentioned the counter-tariff imposed during the trade dispute in 2018. Which were imposed on American goods like Heinz ketchup, playing cards, bourbon and Harley-Davidson bikes. “We don’t want to do that because it would raise prices for Canadians and it would hurt our closest trading partner,” Trudeau said.

Earlier this week, Justin Trudeau had rejected Trump’s proposal and said that there is no possibility of this. Canada will never become a part of America.
