US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has made a big statement on Tuesday (September 23, 2025) about the purchase of India’s Russian oil. He said that President Trump is considering to tighten the restrictions on Russia and increase tariffs on India as India is constantly importing crude oil from Russia. Rubio said that this step can be taken to pressure the Ukraine war to end. Along with this, he has asked Europe to impose similar restrictions.

In an interview to NBC, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “There are some countries in Europe, which are buying crude oil and natural gas from Russia on a large scale, which is absolutely absurd.”
He said, ‘You have seen the steps we have taken in relation to India, although we hope that it can be improved and President Trump has the ability to take more steps and because the direction in which the situation is going is considering it.’
Progress in conversation with India: Rubio
Earlier, in an interview to ABC News, Marco Rubio had said, ‘The main issue of talks on trade agreement with India is the purchase of oil from Russia. We recently held a meeting with him again, which had issues about the purchase of crude oil from Russia, which has made a lot of progress.
