The city of Kolkata saw a rain on the morning of 23 September which was about to break the record. In just three hours, it received 180 mm of rain. It was the highest rainfall in September in 39 years of the city. A total of 24 hours received 251.4 mm of rain, which is the sixth most heavy rain in the history of the city. In some places, 332 mm was recorded.
No cloud burst, unique weather collision
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that it was not a cloud bursting. Rather, the unexpected collision of wind and moisture made it so strong. Habibur Rahman Biswas of IMD said that the height of the cloud was only 4-6 km, while the cloud is 18 kilometers in the burst. There was less than 100 mm of rain per hour.

In the first three hours, it increased from 48.6 mm to 185.6 mm. The low pressure area and the cloud shift from South Bengal became the reason. Some experts said a cloud bursting, but IMD rejected.
Cloud broke and shift towards Kolkata
The clouds of South Bengal broke down and shifted to Kolkata. IMD predicted 115 mm of rain, but actually more than doubled. High tide, choke drains and illegal construction increased the problem. The 2021 report of the United Nations had warned that strong rains will increase in short time in Kolkata.

Due to low pond, the capacity to absorb water decreased. Mayor Firhad Hakim said that the river was also filled in low tide. Put 900 pumps, but only 6 inches of water landed. Durga Puja is the risk of rain
IMD has given alert. Light drizzle on September 25-26, but 27-28 may receive strong rain. Cyclone is being built on the Myanmar coast, which will move towards Odisha. This will rain in West Bengal, but not so heavy. Worship committees are cautious.
