US President Donald Trump and Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had an important meeting at the White House. During this, Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir was also present with Shahbaz Sharif.
The meeting was held at the White House on Thursday evening, where Sharif was received by senior administrative officials at the entrance of West Executive Avenue. This meeting was the first official oval office of a Pakistani Prime Minister after 2019.
In this closed room, bilateral relations, business, regional security and global issues are expected to be discussed. This journey holds special significance for Sharif as last time in July 2019, the then Prime Minister Imran Khan visited the White House.

Sharif will give speech in UNGA today
This Washington stop of Sharif is part of his 5-day US tour, which was fixed around the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly. Prior to this, he has addressed the Climate Conference held in New York and will give a formal speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday.
There is already talks between Trump and Pakistan’s military leadership. In June, Trump invited Army Chief Munir for a white house lunch. Munir then nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The Government of Pakistan later cited the role of Trump’s mediation in the short -term struggle between India and Pakistan, supporting the move.

This formal meeting clearly indicated that Pakistan wants to maintain high-level dialogue with Washington, even if its current diplomatic focus is on the activities of the United Nations.
