US President Donald Trump has created a controversy by making a statement. He said that pregnant women should not take talinol (paracetamol) during the entire pregnancy, because this can increase autism in children. He claimed that this medicine could be behind the increasing autism cases. Since this statement, doctors from all over the world and the country came out and they said that paracetamol is a very safe medicine and has no relation of autism. Now the answer to the World Health Organization (WHO) on Trump’s statement has come out.
What did WHO say?
The World Health Organization and the European Drug Agency (EMA) completely rejected Trump’s claim. WHO said, no direct relationship between paracetamol and autism has been found in research so far. The organization warned that the drugs which have been proved to have proved, should not surround suspicion with political statements.
The European Pharmaceutical Agency has also said that paracetamol is a safe option of pain and well for pregnant women. The Chief Medical Officer of EMA said, “Whatever scientific data is available, it is a conclusion that there is no evidence of autism in children from paracetamol.” In a review of 2019, it was also found that there is no relation between exposure of medicine in the womb and neurodevaltate disorder of children.
How safe to take paracetamol in pregnancy?
Dr. Rajneesh Joshi, Head and Professor of the General Medicine Department of AIIMS Bhopal, told Aajtak.in, ‘Paracetamol is safe for fever and pain and can be taken in pregnancy. Special if there is a pregnant woman, then she has fever, then we do not have any other option safe from paracetamol. Now and what was said that paracetamol women do not eat, if paracetamol is needed only if it is needed, that too mainly for fever.
‘The link is of paracetamol and autism, it has no scientific basis. In the same way, vaccines and autism also have no scientific basis. So if you talk about science and medical science and the medical community has completely denied this statement.
‘As many guidelines and as many protocols of medical treatment, safety and avidens are first found in it. Paracetamol is taken when fever comes. The first thing is not medical complications in most pregnancy. There are few pregnancy, where medical issues come.
‘If there is fever in pregnancy, then Alredi medicines are given careful because the listing of medicines is what can be given in pregnancy and which is not. Do not take any medicine without consult. So During Pregnancy Medication is very minimum and prescription is also minimum, so this paracetamol will not be given to every pregnant woman anyway. If a pregnant woman has fever during pregnancy and that fever is often more than 2 days, then paracetamol advice is done.
What does WHO and Ema say?
According to both the World Health Organization and the European Medical Association, the figures of the last several decades show that infants who have used paracetamol have not increased the risk of congenital malformations. At the same time, despite the suggestion of a relationship between autism or ADHD in some research, it has not been confirmed that paracetamol is the reason for it.
According to doctors, paracetamol is the only safe option for pregnancy fever and pain relief, especially compared to options such as NSAID (ibupane), which are not recommended.
