Wellington: Former New Zealand head coach Gary Stead has again joined New Zealand cricket and will now be the High Performance Director. New Zealand Cricket said on Friday that stead will be in charge of high performance programs with the development of players and coaches.

Earlier in June, he resigned from the post of head coach. He was the coach of the team from 2018 to 2025. During this, the New Zealand team reached the 2019 ODI World Cup, 2021 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy final.

New Zealand defeated India in the 2019-21 World Test Championship final. Stead said:

New Zealand cricket has been very close to my heart for the last thirty years and looks very good to stay connected with the game.

His role is not full -time, so that he can also work outside New Zealand cricket. He has been made the head coach of the Andhra team for the 2025-26 Ranji season.
