Elephant Festival is being celebrated with pomp in the national parks of Madhya Pradesh. Elephants are being worshiped and they are being served their favorite food. They are being decorated and presented to see the people around. Also, information about their social behavior is being given.
Elephants have an important role in trekking, patrolling and rescue operations of wildlife in the Tiger Reserve. The objective of this event is to raise awareness in the public due to the continuous residence of wild elephants in Bandhavgarh and encourage their sense of service, care and protection.
Rama Hathi Camp, Elephant Festival is being organized at Rama Hathi Camp, Tala in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve of Shahdol. During this time, elephants are being given complete rest and their favorite dishes are being provided.
Park management has dedicated the festival to elephants this time. The camp has 15 elephants, including 9 male and 6 females. A 79 -year -old elephant named Gautam is the eldest and has retired, while one -year -old Ganga is the smallest elephant.
On the first day of the festival, elephants were bathed in the Charan Ganga river in the morning, where they have fun in water. On returning to the camp, they are massaged with neem and castor oil. Wildlife specialist physicians take care of dewming, legs and teeth.
Elephants are decorated with sandalwood and served favorite foods like sugarcane, pear, coconut, jaggery, maize, banana, apples, guava and roti. Their diet is determined by physicians, including minerals, traditional food and energy providing foods.
Elephants of the camp are honored in the elephant festival as well as employees taking care of them. Mahavats and their assistants are tested for health testing. Special training is also given to elephants related to the challenges, current and future changes.
In Sanjay Tiger Reserve (Sidhi), a grand event of Elephant Regeneration Campidhi is being organized in the Khairijheel Elephant Camp Complex. MLA Kunwar Singh Tekam launched the festival by worshiping elephants and offering fruits. He distributed flashlight, mosquito nets and bags to Mahavats and fodder cuttings. The event is organized every year for elephant health enhancement and care.
The event includes elephants like Bapu, Bharat, Chitra and Shambhavi. Banana, apple, papaya, sugarcane, coconut etc. are being fed with regular diet. Tusk trimming, nail harvesting, neem oil massage and health tests are being done by specialist doctors of Jabalpur.
Mahavats and fodder cutters are also being tested, along with discussions and sports programs are being organized. Elephants in the camp have been kept completely free from work.
