India on Friday raised strict objections by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s statement on Kashmir as ‘objectionable’. The Ministry of External Affairs clearly stated that Kashmir is a bilateral issue of India and Pakistan and there is no need for any third party.

India’s attitude clear
Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘Our stand on Kashmir is absolutely clear and there has been no change in it. The issues between India and Pakistan will be resolved by negotiation among themselves. There is no need for a third party mediation.

Erdogan raised the issue in UNGA
Erdogan raised the Kashmir issue in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. He had said that Türkiye is happy with the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan and this dispute should be resolved on the basis of UN proposals and negotiations.

India’s strong opposition
The Ministry of External Affairs raised strong objection to this statement and summoned the Turkish ambassador. A ministry spokesman said, “Such statements on India’s sovereignty and regional integrity are unacceptable.” Jaiswal also said that the basic problem of Jammu and Kashmir arises from the conduct of Pakistan. He further said, “It would have been better if Pakistan’s policy of using cross-border terrorism against India, which remains the biggest threat to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, would be questioned.”

Jaiswal also mentioned Cyprus
Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that recently Foreign Minister S.K. Jaishankar met his counterpart of Cyprus. During this time he reiterated India’s support for a comprehensive and permanent solution based on the United Nations structure on the Northern Cyprus issue.

Meeting US Secretary of State in New York
Jaishankar also met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The two leaders discussed further strengthening Indo-US relations, promoting free and inclusive Indo-Pacific under Quad, and increasing cooperation on trade, energy and important minerals.
