Statue stolen from CCTV on 20 September It is written in the FIR that Nikhil Kumar, who did duty in the museum gallery, told the police that the theft incident was reported at around 2.40 pm on 20 September. He was informed on the phone by CISF head constable PK Pandey that the replica of ‘Dancing Girl’ is missing from ‘Anubhav Vithika’ gallery.
When the CCTV footage was checked immediately, a person was seen raising replica. Even before Nikhil Kumar reached the spot, CISF officials SI Pargat Singh and Head Constable Mahendra Singh caught the accused and recovered the stolen replica. The stolen person was identified as Professor Sarman Mukherjee (46), who is working in Ashoka University and originally residents of West Bengal.
Police imposed stolen sections As soon as the theft was reported, Beat Head Constable Leelu informed SI Manish on duty at the police station on the National Museum, Janpath Road at around 4 pm. During this, before the arrival of SI Manish, complainants Nikhil Kumar, Beat HC Leelu and HC Ajit caught Professor Sarman Mukherjee and also recovered the stolen ‘dancing girl’ replica. When SI Manish reached the spot, he handed over to Professor Sarman Mukherjee and ‘Dancing Girl’ Replica. FIR was registered in Section 305 (E)/317 (2) BNS.
He gave the statement of Professor Sarman Mukherjee given above to the museum and the police. On the basis of these arguments, the professor has got interim bail. Now the police will investigate.
