Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir are engaged in wooing US President Donald Trump. Recently, these two leaders have also met Trump in the White House. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khwaja Asif has described China as the most special friend. Asif said that the relations between China and Pakistan are reliable. Khwaja Asif’s statement shows that Pakistan is trying to ride two boats.
Speaking to British-American journalist Mehdi Hasan, Asif said that China has been Pakistan’s most trusted companion and a major source of weapons. He said, ‘A large part of our aircraft, submarines and other weapons comes from China. For us, the reliability of China and the importance of being neighbor is more than in other countries.
What did Asif say about Pakistan’s relations with America?
Asif described Pakistan’s relations with America as ‘transaction or flirting’. He said, ‘As much as we are close to America, China has been and will be the most trusted and permanent ally in Pakistan. They are reliable and are also our neighbors.
In this interview, the recent Saudi-Pakistan Defense Agreements and incidents of former PM Imran Khan being in jail were also discussed. The “Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement” has been signed between Saudi-Arab and Pakistan, under which the two countries have put a condition to consider any attack on both. The agreement was reached in the presence of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during the Saudi tour of Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister praises Trump
US President Trump met Sharif and Army Chief Munir at the White House, with US Vice President J.D. Vance and Foreign Secretary Marco Rubio was also present. In his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, the Prime Minister of Pakistan praised Trump fiercely and described him as a ‘man of peace’, as well as nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. However, according to India, Trump or Sharif had no direct role in the steps taken by Pakistan during the struggle in Kashmir.
