Tamil actor and politician Vijay’s party Tamil Nadu Votari Vaatri Kazhagam (TVK) suddenly caused a stampede on the evening of Saturday (September 27, 2025). It killed 36 people and injured about 40 people, including 6 children. This incident of stampede took place in Velusamipuram on the Karur-Erode highway.
The stampede was so terrible that the children were separated from their families and many children were crushed before the intervention of the volunteers and the police. Meanwhile, politician Vijay was seen stopping his speech, distributing water bottles to the unconscious supporters and pleading for help from the police. On one occasion, the actor was seen calling to find a 9-year-old missing girl in the midst of chaos.
Witnesses told the whole truth
Eyewitnesses told the police that the uproar started at around 7.45 pm, when a large part of the crowd eager to get a glimpse of the actor and leader Vijay broke towards the barricades of the stage. Many people fainted in this suffocating crowd.
Eyewitnesses also told that due to sudden power failure, there was chaos at the venue. Thousands of people gathered to listen to Vijay’s speech and got caught in the crowd. Prior to the incident, Vijay was talking about local complaints including illegal sand mining, mineral theft and other civic issues affecting Karur.
More crowd gathered in Karur rally than estimated
Many activists sensed the situation and made a noise. Vijay paid attention to this and tried to stop his speech, especially the publicity made to deliver water bottles to the people from above the bus. The ambulance had to struggle a lot to reach the spot via crowded road.
The district officials had earlier confirmed that 10 people had died, but the death toll increased after the reports were lodged by the hospitals. At least 30 injured have suffered fractures and breathing. Police sources said that more crowds had gathered at the Karur rally than the initial estimate.
Volunteers encouraged people to move forward
Please tell that before Vijay came on stage, many senior officials of TVK addressed the gathering. Former coordinator of Vijay Makkal Iqikam, Bussi Anand and Karur district in -charge K.K. Many leaders including Ramesh gave a brief speech and encouraged the audience. As soon as Vijay came on stage, the enthusiasm increased so much that his supporters started moving fast to get close to him.
According to local reporters, the police had objected to the absence of buffer zone around the stage of Vijay’s rally. Allegedly, when Vijay started speaking, some volunteers instigated people to move forward, leading to the crowd further.
