In Karur district of Tamil Nadu, there was a stampede at the rally of actor and political leader Vijay on Saturday (September 27), including at least 39 people, including women and children. Apart from this, more than 95 people were injured and they have been admitted to different hospitals.
DGP G. What did Venkataraman say?
DGP (in-charge) G. Venkataraman said that the organizers of the rally had sought a ground for about 10,000 people, but 27,000 people gathered. The crowd was relatively low in TVK’s previous rallies, but this time a large number of people arrived. The permission for the rally was given from 3 pm to 10 pm, but people started gathering from 11 am.
Vijay’s late arrival caused a stampede
The TVK party had announced that Vijay would reach the rally venue by 12 noon. But they arrived at 7:40 pm. The DGP said that by then the crowd had been waiting in the scorching sun for several hours and they did not have enough food and water.

Accident
During the accident, people started fainting in a large crowd and fell. Many women and children were injured. Many videos of stampede have surfaced, in which people are seen running and entering the huts to save their lives. In some videos, women and children are doing Karun Kandan. Vijay stopped his speech in the middle and gave water bottles to the injured supporters, as well as appealed to the police for help.
There were 500 policemen posted in the rally
DGP Venkataraman said that about 500 policemen were deployed at the rally. Vijay appreciated the police work, but warned the party workers to take responsibility for mob management. ADGP Davidson Airavham, 3 Inspector General of Police, 2 DIG, 10 SPs and 2000 policemen were sent to Karur. At the same time, the security of Vijay’s house in Chennai has also been increased.
State government ordered orders to investigate the accident
The state government has set up a forest-man commission to investigate the accident. Chief Minister MK Stalin announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased and Minister Ma to monitor relief and medical arrangements. Subramanian has been appointed.
Vijay’s response
Vijay said on social media, “My heart is broken. I am in great pain and mourning. My deep condolences to my brothers and sisters in Karur. I pray for the early recovery of people undergoing treatment in the hospital.”
