In cases such as stone pelting, arson and inciting religious sentiments during the violence, cases have been filed against 180 nominated and 2,500 unidentified people in different police stations.

14 days judicial custody in Tauqir Raza
The police raided from house to house overnight and searched for the accused. The arrested Tauqir Raza and seven of his associates were produced in court on Saturday and sent to judicial custody for 14 days. He was later shifted to Fatehgarh Central Jail.

Neighboring district on high alert
Security has been tightened around Dargah-e-Ala Hazrat in Bareilly. Internet services have been suspended for 48 hours. In neighboring districts such as Rampur, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Moradabad, Barun, Sambhal, Bijnor, Amroha and Fatehgarh, the administration has also issued high alert, as Raza supporters live in these districts.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind condemns arrest
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind took the arrest of Maulana Tauqir Raza Khan and others seriously on Sunday. The organization alleged that the state machinery is being misused for political purposes and law and order issues are being made an opportunity to communal polarization.

The president of the organization Syed Sadatullah Hussaini said that the arrest of Tauqir Raza and others is ‘unjust’. He said, ‘The slogan of I Love Muhammad is only a symbol of reverence and faith. It is not only unfair to show it as a threat to public system and register an FIR, but is an attack on the pluralist and cultural heritage of India.

Hussaini said that this crisis is the result of political mischief, which is creating division and mistrust in society. He alleged that the selective and excessive use of the powers of the state is against the principles of constitution and justified rule. He appealed to the Muslim community to remain calm.

He urged the government to withdraw the charges, the wrongly arrested people should be released immediately and justice and equality should be restored in the administration. Hussaini said that India’s strength lies in its constitution, plurality and social honor, which cannot be weakened for political gains.

Tension spread in many districts
After violence in Bareilly, tension spread in many districts of Uttar Pradesh. People of both communities gathered after the banner ‘I Love Muhammad’ was demolished in Faizullaganj village of Barabanki district, which created a tense atmosphere. In the CCTV footage, local watchman Dhanni was seen dropping the banner. The police arrested eight people in the case and restored peace.
